If you’re the gal who always shows up at the party with a bottle of bubbly, have a closet full of sequins or feel that you’re the reincarnation of Daisy Buchanan; you are a true Gatsby bride!

A Gatsby wedding can be quite harrowing to plan because the sequins and glitter can sometimes clog your vision. Devine Wedding Design has executed a fair share of vintage soirees and has recently designed an affair fit for Mr. Gatsby himself.

Like any wedding theme, a Gatsby wedding requires the combination of many intricate details. There should be a balance between the gold, glitz and glamour of Mr. Gatsby’s iconic parties and the soft flowing whimsy of the reunion at Nick Carraway’s house – think macarons and orchids! We’d like to get you started with your Gatsby wedding by helping you narrow down some of the key features that will transport your guests to another time.

Ceremony

Your ceremony is where you can evoke the elements of whimsy found within The Great Gatsby. We suggest starting with a white flowing backdrop for the nuptials with feathers highlighting the alter. A Gatsby bride should also get creative with her vows and passages. Consider ending your vows with the famous quotes from the novel by F. Scott Fitzgerald. Our favourite is: ” so we beat on, boats against the current, born back ceaselessly into the past.” Another great idea is to ask a friend or relative to say a combination of a bible passage and a Gatsby quote. The best passage for reading aloud at a ceremony is usually the one where Gatsby spots the green light across the bay longing to see Daisy again. The green light represents his burning desire for her – you may also want to use this as a symbolic accent colour throughout your wedding design.

Music

Music is something that can make or break an event. Since not everybody loves era music let alone sounds of the Charleston, consider using an era song for one of your special moments. You may want to use it for cutting the cake, your entrance or first dance. However, if you really aren’t a fan of era music yourself, consider finding tracks from Baz Luhrmann’s 2013 cinematic rendition with our favourite leading man, Leonardo DiCaprio.

Photo Booth

A photo booth is fun in general, but adding some 1920’s props will make everyone forget that it’s 2017. Try heading to a thrift shop to find some old pearls and furs or going to Party City for some fake cigarettes, feather boas and bow ties. Don’t forget to get creative with your signage for the photo booth and your display. You may want a gold sequin backdrop and a fun place to hold all of the items. An old trunk is a great way to keep your booth both organized and on theme – it also beats a basic table.

Centerpieces

A Gatsby wedding requires large dramatic centerpieces and there are plenty of ideas for all budgets. Feathers add drama that is on theme and can be rented from Devine Wedding Design for a fraction of the cost of flowers. However, if you have room in the budget, consider having white orchids. Orchids are an expensive bloom however offers major drama. There are many ways centerpieces can be made dramatic while staying on theme. Devine Wedding Design is happy to have a consultation to discuss these options!

So there you have it, if all of those ideas still spark your fancy, it seems as though your theme has been chosen. Don’t let all of the details send your head spinning, take a deep breath, grab a glass of bubbly and sit down for a viewing of The Great Gatsby before rushing into anything. Devine Wedding Design has everything needed to transform your wedding into a new era and we’re excited to help!
